is it possible to also get rex engine here?

(+13)(-6)

this is litteraly just godot with different colors

(+8)(-9)

its called forking

(+9)(-10)

There's a lot more to it than just different colors.  Yes, it was forked from Godot.  But if you read the mission statement about the engine, you'd learn that there's a lot more to it.

  • Unity’s missteps (retroactive runtime fees) drove many devs to Godot, which felt like a welcoming open-source home.
  • Over time, Godot’s moderation and social media became politicized — culminating in the "#Wokot" post, which many saw as the official team taking a political stance. Users who disagreed or questioned this direction were often banned from Discord, X, or GitHub.

  • This broke trust between the Godot team and parts of its community, convincing some that the engine was no longer community-first.

  • Additional concerns included thousands of unaddressed PRs and corporate influence over development despite large donations.

Redot’s mission:

  • Provide an apolitical, inclusive, and community-driven alternative where developers can focus purely on making games.

  • Ensure no exclusion for personal beliefs, backgrounds, or opinions.

  • Deliver bug fixes, features, and governance shaped by the community rather than corporate or ideological interests.

  • Operate transparently and without exclusionary codes of conduct.

The core idea: “Your game, your rules — now and forever.”

You can read about it from the official blog: https://www.redotengine.org/blog/redot-why-we-forked

(+10)(-10)

Oh, this is some conservative grifter bs, got it. Literally the only people who complain about "wokeness" are conservatives that want to say slurs without getting pushback.

Good luck with all this, I'm sure you've made very meaningful contributions to the codebase.

(+5)(-6)

To your first point: okay? Whether or not that's true is moot to this project. The engine is a tool and by nature is apolitical. It's the mods and the higher-ups that are the problem by pushing am agenda into the Godot engine. That's not okay. I don't use my various statuses to grandstand on any ideology and neither should those in charge of the engine.

To your second: I've not committed anything to Godot's or Redot's code bases and it doesn't matter whether or not I've done so. I spent hours on the Godot subreddit helping budding developers with their issues with their projects for a long time, not that that matters, either. Your dig at me on a personal level is truly meaningless and a reflection of your spiteful personality. I feel sorry for you that you need you hurl insults at someone who just gave information.

(+7)(-5)

A "fork" of the master project, with no meaningful changes/re-implementations/refactors/fixes, made explicitly because you don't like the politics of the original developers, makes this project 1,000 times more of a political statement than the original project.

This is not an "in good faith" project. It's a spiteful distraction. Public masturbation disguised as an apolitical-political statement.

(+4)(-5)

You didn’t read the mission statement I posted or check the website for yourself. The fork wasn’t created “because of politics.” Politics were the final straw. Those are separate issues. From my reading and discussions with the Redot community, this fork was made in good faith, and until shown otherwise, I’ll stand by that.

Redot is only a few months old. Meanwhile, W4 Games is steering Godot toward corporate-driven features while a massive backlog of PRs goes unresolved. That’s easy to verify. Redot exists to correct that imbalance.

What matters most is whether the fork improves the ecosystem and addresses problems Godot hasn’t. That’s what I’ll be watching. Understand that I'm not blindly following Redot, either. I'll just as easily use PyGame if it comes down to it.

For context: I’ve been a long-time supporter of Godot, since just before the 3.1 release. It was always at the top of my list because it’s open source and backed by a helpful community. Over time, though, shifts in leadership and moderation changed that. I still love the engine itself, and you can verify that under my old moniker kamikazecopilot on the subreddit, where I often voiced support of the engine and other developers. But I cannot support the direction of those currently in control. Anyone who criticized moderation or raised concerns was silenced or banned outright. That hard stance felt authoritarian, and I refuse to stand behind it.

(+1)(-4)

And then you go to the comments and make it a Twitter discussion? Guess you don't care much if they really make something with the fork but only wants to complain about the reasons that the fork was made.

(+1)

Couldn't have said it any better xD

(+2)(-1)

Imagine making a politically biased engine to complain about an engine that took a political stance

(1 edit) (+2)

If you knew anything about software development you would understand why political activism does not mix with it. Instead you're creating a fictional straw man to justify it.

Maybe making a game is something you should stay away from, because your customers will certainly not tolerate such an additude.

(+2)(-2)

Literally, who cares about Godot teams political view or whatever, Godot isn't a community it's a game engine

Godot already follows "YOUR" core idea

(+2)(-3)

Obviously at least I do.

Why though? This is literally the only reason Redot exists, you can't close your ears to all the useless noise that doesn't affect you in any way.

It's like saying "Isaac newton was a proven violent evil mass murderer" and then just scrapping his laws of motion (copy pasting it) then just giving it a new name and a fancy logo, now what change did that really make?

(+1)

Fair question, thank you (in earnest). I believe those who forked the engine did so in good faith, regardless of what led to that decision. There’s a post (and a YouTube video of the same content) that explains why they actually made the fork.

I don’t close my ears to others’ opinions, but I do choose who I do business with. If I disagree with what they stand for, I choose to do business elsewhere.

As for the engines themselves: I refuse to support an engine (or by extension, those who use it as a platform) that takes a political stance, regardless of the stance, when its entire purpose is to make my computer go brrrrrrr. It’s literally that simple.

What really drove me away was seeing how much Godot’s PR and W4 Games have leaned into politics and even silenced people who prefer to keep politics out of the conversation. An engine isn’t a person. I pay for a tool to serve its purpose. If that tool decides its opinions are more important than its function, it loses a lot of value to me.

Look up my old moniker on r/godot (u/kamikazecopilot), I was a staunch supporter of Godot. That is until the moderators started to ban anyone who disagreed with the post on Twitter then banned discord users who asked why. It was a big thing and I won't support Godot even though I still love the engine as a tool.

(1 edit) (-1)

You've got it backwards. The problem is that they care and are stifling the development of their own project because PR among a certain hive is more important to them than just being a good option.

(-1)

Name one Godot Engine feature or development shift that has been affected in any way by their political views, If for example a famous musician suddenly turns out to be a horrible person, it doesn't change the product, if it was good in the beginning it's still good in the end.

So unless Redot provides with more and better features which helps me develop video games, why am I supposed to use it? convince me that this helps me.

Because in all honesty the "We have a different view/opinion" is not good enough, the quality of your product is NOT based on your political views or opinions, it only is if it directly affects your product.

"Redot is a free open source game engine capable of creating 2D and 3D games that's made for"

The only difference I see here between Redot and Godot is two letters, and I wasn't partaking in the Godot community anyways, so the only change apart from that would be 2 letters, an icon and a color.

Please pay attention to what you are replying to. If politics are irrelevant to the quality of a project then Godot should not be enforcing a political echo chamber within theirs, denying commits or feedback from people they don't like. That was the entire reason it got forked. What you get with Redot is a development team actually interested in working on it instead of a bunch of CoC-abusers that contribute absolutely nothing and waste time. This perhaps isn't obvious to a casual end user or someone who doesn't work in software, but the trustworthiness and reliability of the people you base your commercial work on matters a lot. You seem to be aware that politics has no place here, so I have no idea why you think Redot is the problem.

(+3)(-2)

Redot is basically a backup plan in case Godot's team decides to make a decision that ruins your game studio. It may never happen cause the godot team are awsome, but It's still a plan B .  It's also nice to have a choice in community who you would get along with better.  Just think of it as pokemon red and pokemon blue.

In the end we are all still godotneers . Much love and respect to everyone.

1) Godot is free

2) Godot's social media is irrelevant to the Game engine itself.

3) It's a broken trust between Godot team and their community, not between game developers and Godot Engine

To  be honest you didn't mention any meaningful additions to the game engine itself, one guy says "this is litteraly just godot with different colors", you fail to reply with points explaining how it's not true, proving his statement.

And Godot has delivered bug fixes and features that I didn't ask for but still find useful, so the trust between me and Godot engine is still there, I was never apart of any of their twitter or social media community anyways.

(+12)(-14)

Just get godot

(1 edit)

(+12)(-15)

godot is better

(+2)(-1)

(+6)(-1)

Good Job! Make the ReX engine, I am actively looking for it. Keep up the good work. Godot is also nice.

(-6)

(1 edit) (+10)(-8)

before using redot i was bullied every day they would mock me make fun of me call me gay and say that i will never find a women that like me using godot made it even worse my mother thought i was in the closet after seeing me using it and even arranged me a date with a homeless man the birds will piss on my head every time after going outside as well but now after using redot i became 420% stronger grow wings raced the flash and won and even turned into a werewolf under a full sun my mom now know that im a super alpha x y z male and dont think im gay anymore!!

5/5 life changing

the only downside is that it so good it makes thing too easy

(+5)(-30)

you stole Godot

(+24)(-6)

It's called "forking"

They made an offensive stance against Godot engine using  Godot engine.

(+15)(-2)

Nobody stole anything. That's one of the basics of Open Source. Otherwise you also could say LibreOffice stole OpenOffice or stuff. MariaDB stole MySQL. The list could go on for days. So ... no, Redot did NOT "steal" Godot ... Redot forked Godot. Know the difference.

(+5)(-4)

(+1)(-1)

Thank you!

(+2)(-1)

(+1)(-3)

For the stable build there's not much we can do since we're maintaining compatibility with Godot.

You can try optimizing your build for size and see if that helps:
https://docs.redotengine.org/en/stable/contributing/development/compiling/optimi...

(+4)(-1)

hi! i am wondribg if the devs will allow individual export template download.i.e, insted of downloasing a gigabyte worth of templated just download 1 that the user constantly uses and have the ability to just locate to that file in editor setting so that the use wont need to reput the location every time when needing to export.

(+3)(-2)

Sorry for the late reply. I did ask about this but didn't get a response. I'll bring it up again.

(+1)(-1)

could you optimize the physics engine?

(+6)(-4)

Redot is currently working on backporting Jolt into 4.3, so it's in the works.

(+2)(-3)

where is godot 4.4

(+3)(-3)

Redot 4.4 will be released after Godot releases the stable version.

(+1)(-3)

when is godot 4.4 stable coming out?

(+1)(-1)

They plan on having it out in about a month, but we don't know  when it will be released.

(-2)

The Android version has been added to the download list, but keep in mind this is a Beta build and an unsigned app. You will need to sideload it, and it may require developer permissions to run.

(+1)(-1)

(+1)(-2)

You can either message Andevrs on Discord, post in the #redot-discussion channel, or ask on our forums.

(+1)

(+3)(-2)

Right now we're waiting on the apk to get signed before we upload those builds here. If you want, you can join our Discord server or Forums and reach out to Andevrs to get access to the beta build for Android.
